Hi there! My name is Stella, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of the Davis Period Blog. Davis Period just had Info-night last Thursday and it was so great to see all of those who came! For those of you who could not make it, this post should give you a good idea about what you missed and what Davis Period is all about.
We began the meeting with a short discussion about what menstrual equity means to us. There was a general agreement that menstrual equity means accessible and affordable menstrual products and education for all.
Afterwards, the officers in attendance introduced themselves and discussed a little bit about their experiences in DavisPeriod. I discussed my journey with having a period and how the club's mission of promoting menstrual equity aligned with my own values.
More About Our Mission:
We at Davis Period are a student-led organization that’s committed to combating period poverty and menstrual stigma on campus and within the Davis community. We do this through service, education, and advocacy.
Some of the work we do consists of hosting around 3-5 workshops per quarter(educational, DIY), distributing free menstrual products at our events and through our product request form, hosting product drives, working with charities and other student organizations, and posting articles surrounding relevant topics about menstruation.
While Davis Period does not have general membership, we do offer internship opportunities. These internships are a 2 quarter commitment where you’ll likely have meetings with officers once per week. In these internships, depending on the department you are in, you will help to organize workshops, create Instagram posts, search for funding opportunities, or write for the blog!
This leads me to introduce all the different branches of Davis Period. We have 6 different departments and these include:
Education and Advocacy: Host workshops and create/promote educational material.
Sustainable Menstruation: Host workshops about sustainability within menstruation and promote and hand out sustainable menstrual products.
Operations and Donations: Donation drives, keeping track of product inventory, and sourcing more menstrual products.
Editor (the blog): Write articles on various menstrual topics for the Davis Period blog, and other written material.
PR and Outreach: Runs the Davis Period Instagram, designs posts/flyers, and is in charge of communications with other organizations.
Finance: In charge of managing Davis Period’s accounts, writing grants for period products, and fundraising.
If you align with our mission and are interested in joining Davis Period, applications are open until November 8th. You can find the internship application in our linktree in our Instagram bio @davisperiod. You can apply to 1-2 of any of the six departments, but if accepted you will be chosen for one department. If selected for an interview, they will be held before the end of the quarter.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We would love to have you join us in our mission to combat period poverty and the stigma around menstruation!
