Davis Period collabs with other student advocacy groups at Menstrual Equity Roundtable

We hope your new year is going well! As winter quarter picks up steam, we wanted to take a moment to recount some of the exciting events and projects we undertook last quarter.

Sustainable Menstruation Workshop

Our lovely Sustainable Menstruation Officer Drishti, organized a workshop where students could make their own eco-friendly menstrual kit. After hearing a bit about the importance of sustainability in period care, attendees got to make their super-cute and super-functional kits, complete with free menstrual products.

Reproductive Justice & DIY Heating Pad Workshop

Education & Advocacy Officers Prachi and Chloe teamed up with Students for Reproductive for an informative and fun workshop. Members of both organizations had a great time practicing self-care, learning about the state of menstrual equity and meeting new friends!

Menstrual Equity Roundtable

Late last quarter, several UC Davis student advocacy groups met to discuss the state of menstrual equity on campus. Davis Period was proud to join, along with Project RISHI (Rural India Social and Health Improvement), Students for Reproductive Freedom, the ASUCD Gender & Sexuality Commission, the Women’s Resources and Research Center, and more.

The event was spearheaded by The Pantry, UC Davis’ student-run food and necessities distribution center following their awarding of a sizable grant provided for increasing equity. We talked about current challenges to providing consistent menstrual product access at UC Davis and the social, cultural and economic factors that impact individual student’s menstrual product insecurity.

While we were excited to participate in the roundtable, the issue is far from solved. Our officers look forward to continuing to work with The Pantry and other community partners this year to alleviate period poverty at UC Davis.

Davis Period has already planned and begun great things this quarter: important workshops, exciting collaborations and fun socials. We can't wait to see you there!
